Welcome to the EEMCS Graduate School

What will you be doing in four years? Ask a random passer-by and nine times out of ten you will probably get the answer “I don`t know”. If you are setting out for your PhD, on the other hand, you have a clear goal - to obtain your doctorate in four years. It`s rather like being a professional athlete. With the Olympic Games in sight, you know what is required of you - good presentation, the occasional competitive event, poster presentation, article or conference. All steps towards your goal.

It may well seem like something of a tall order. You have never worked on a project of this magnitude in your career so far. It can be quite a lonely occupation bacause you are going to be the specialist in the field. Maybe you are already, to some extent. However, you can also feel secure in the knowledge that many have already trodden the path you are about to tread and have reached their destination successfully. You can learn from their experience.

And don`t forget your closest colleagues. There are arround 500 colleagues in the faculty who are working towards the same Olympic end point as you - over 400 men and nearly 100 woman. But there is one important difference - you are not playing against each other, but with each other!

Don`t delay, ‘Hora est!’
